Knysna
Knysna has approx. 50.000 permanent residents and is an expression of real South Africa with excellent food, tasty wines, nightlife, fishing opportunities, and wonderful weather.
Combine historic with modern, vibrancy with tranquility, energy with restfulness and you have the Mecca of Southern Africa, the pearl on the lagoon opening through the awesome Heads into the Indian Ocean.
Brenton
The western headland and the hills which dip down to the north to the Knysna lagoon on one side and south to the lovely beach lapped by the Indian Ocean on the other were called Brenton in honour of Vice-Admiral Sir Jahleel Brenton who came to the Cape from Britain in 1815 as Naval Commissioner during the Napoleonic Wars. Brenton and Belvidere were originally part of the farm Uitzicht owned by Solomon Terblans who sold it to Hendrik Barnard. George Rex bought Uitzicht from Hendrik Barnard in 1830. He later sold Uitzicht to his son-in-law, Lieutenant Thomas Henry Duthie. The name Uitzicht was changed, a part of the farm being called Belvidere, and part later receiving the name Brenton.
Brenton-on-Sea offers safe beaches, paragliding, fishing and a beautiful view from the town to Buffelsbaai across the bay.
